This is my 1st year teaching at Salem Elementary School but my 11th year teaching with Wake County Public Schools. I have also taught Kindergarten for 6 years. I am already loving Salem and am so excited to be your little one's 1st grade teacher!
I am originally from Virginia where my parents still live. My older sister lives in Montreal, Canada. It's crazy that I need a passport to visit her! She works for a non-profit and gets to travel the world helping people. She loves to skype and facetime with my students to share all about the cool places she goes so you will get to meet her soon! My brother lives in Raleigh (in my old townhome!) and is moving up the management system at a moving company. He's such a people person and loves helping people. A trait we all share!
I went to The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA where I majored in Psychology and Elementary Education. After graduation I moved to Baltimore, Maryland and had a blast exploring the city before moving to Raleigh to teach in 2006. I love Raleigh because I am close to the mountains and the beach. I LOVE THE BEACH but I also love skiing! I have lived in Apex for 2 years now and am loving getting to know more and more about this amazing little town and exploring new parts of North Carolina. I'm thrilled to live and teach in the Apex community. I love to read, bake brownies and other yummy things, I'm obsessed with FroYo, and pretend I know how to knit (I’ve made two scarves!). My new mission is to get a puppy! Mr. Simorelli isn't so sure about it so I may need your little ones help in persuading him it's really for the best :) Mr. Simorelli travels a lot for work so I enjoy sharing with the students the different places he goes as well. He's an amazing example of what hard work and dedication to your education can do for you. A previous class even named our pet fish after him!
My true passion is teaching. I love what I do and I put my whole self into making sure you are getting everything you need for success. I have an open door policy and not only want but need parent and family involvement. I can not do what I do without your help. I may not always be able to respond right away, but email is by far the best way to reach me: [email protected]. Any questions, comments, concerns, celebrations, etc., etc., I love to get, so do not hesitate!
This year in 1st grade is going to be amazing and I can’t wait to share it with you!

Under the tab "About Mrs. Simorelli" there is more information about Ms. Schachenwal (our classroom teacher assistant)! Couldn't do my job without her!
