Take-Home Books - *Starting in October*
Every day, students may choose a small reader from my classroom library to take home. EACH AND EVERY NIGHT your little one needs to have the story read to them, they can read it with you, or they can read it to you (aloud). It is shown that repetitive reading greatly increases not only a child's reading fluency (less choppy reading) but also their confidence. Monitor how well they read the book the first time on Monday and if you'd like, keep it all week, read it every night, and then the last time on Thursday. You'll see a world of difference! As the year progresses students will have short assignments to complete to go along with their books to complete in a journal. Some examples might be as simple as "Write the title of the book" or "List the characters in your book" to "Write your favorite part" or "What do you think might happen next if you wrote one more page for your book?". Books and assignments will be individually assigned and based off your little one's reading level. It is up to each child to return their books and to get a new one.
When it comes to homework, reading is the MOST important. Don't forget to add your Take Home Book title to your Reading Log! Every book makes us smarter! Please speak with me if you have any questions or concerns.
